Decades in the making

Saturday November 5

This past weekend Buctown held a Jiu Jitsu Seminar with Coach Jay's long time coach and great friend, Kurt Pellegrino-- that turned into a much awaited and highly honored Black Belt Ceremony for him.

Awesome class, as Pellegrino shared stories & foolproof techniques from half-guard that led him through his legendary career while becoming a top UFC middleweight contender, Bellator competitor, and ADCC Champ.

How fitting that 19 years ago this past weekend, Pellegrino was Isip's MMA pro debut opponent. An emotional, full circle moment as these two once opponents shared beautiful memories from their careers and Pellegrino decorated Isip with his new black belt.

A Note from Coach Jay:

Officially in the Black Belt Club 🥋 💎🥳🖤
22 Years in the fight game 💀
Thank you to my coaches Kurt Pellegrino, Eddie Rolon, & Timmy Hands for your love and guidance throughout my life, I honestly don't know how to thank you enough. And to all my teammates, students, friends & family, kids, who shared the blood, sweat, and tears of this long journey, I am truly grateful for all of your love, support, and dedication to your own craft - yous know who you are! From the bottom of my heart - thank you all.
As I close this chapter of the book, I will always cherish our moments and will continue to thrive with all the lessons learned from each experience we had together - and as Happy Gilmore said "Its only just begun."
I love you all 🖤💛🖤💛🖤 on to the next.... 😤

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out and shared this incredibly special day with us. The memories, friendships, and connections we have made thus far on the mats at Buctown will truly last a lifetime. Thank you, Kurt, for spending the time not only to hold a great seminar but for making this noteworthy day extra special here at home for Jay. Your friendship and mentorship are both admired and treasured.

And to Coach Jay, this day has been decades in the making. The significance of the belt means far more than it's physical representation in Jiu Jitsu. You are heart and dedication personified-- the definition of blood, sweat, and all of the tears. The most deserving of this new title. The people on the mats on this day are just a small fraction of the lives you have positively impacted.

Giving a heartfelt and deep Congratulations on this next chapter. Thank you for all that you do and continue to do for your community. We love you + are so very proud.

Big shout out to Reggie Valmores for this dope video and all photos he shared from the day. Thank you so much for being there!

Check out this video from the day. #VHive
